My name is Gareth Watkins, welcome to my
Photography and Video Production website.
My love of all things photography started quite late when my father
bought me a Minolta SLR for my 18th
birthday.
I was at university studying for a French degree at the time but was
bitten by the photo bug. I pestered the Photo Club secretary to show he
how to develop and print my first efforts in black & white..
and that was it, I wanted to be a photographer.
After graduating I spent a few years cutting my teeth, working for
local press in South London, getting the odd shift with a daily news
paper such as the London Standard or an agency such as PA. My first
break came when Reuters moved their photo operation back to Fleet
Street and myself and five other young ‘snappers’ were hired together.
I subsequently was moved to Paris where I stayed from 12 years covering
all manner of assignments in France and around the World. When Reuters
acquired Visnews, the photographers were all required to learn video
too.
I left Reuters in 2000 to set up my own freelance business. For the last 5 years
I have been working closely with a number of clients in France producing brochure photos and video news items as well as producing video material for promotion on
the internet and DVD for two UK based fishing companies, Angling
Lines & Quest Baits. I also run my own fishing business: Croix Blanche Lakes.
I have recently continued my collaboration with Reuters News Pictures, on the picture desk and shooting current affairs.
